| Abstract |
|
It has generally been assumed that cancers arise through the accumulation of individual muta- tions over time; however, recent cancer genome sequence analyses suggest that multiple mutations can arise simultaneously during a single event such as chromothripsis, which results in extensive genomic rearrangements that are usually con- fined to a single chromosome. |
